Myanmar Learning Center will be offering after-school tutoring on ESL, Algebra and Geometry for high school and middle school students, on Saturdays (12-3pm), starting from October 27, 2012.
All students from Burma are welcome. They can also bring their Math homework and get help. There is no tuition fees.
Professor Karl Byleen from Math Department at Marquette University will be leading our Math tutoring program. We have bilingual teaching assistants. Our assistants are college students as well as working professionals.
We have over one thousand Burmese refugee population in Milwaukee, and over three hundred Burmese students are enrolled across Milwaukee Public Schools. Many of our students fled from Burma and grew up in refugee camps in Thai-Burma border areas. Some had as little as elementary level of education. When they are resettled in Milwaukee, they have to enroll in high schools if they are sixteen. Students with very little background of education are needing a lot of help with English and Math to catch up with their study. This is the reason we are running Math and English tutoring program on Saturdays to help them learn and graduate.
